The Rocklands Association for Development (RAD) is a nonprofit created by locals, conservationists and climbers. Our mission is simple: to activate the climbing community around social and environmental projects that help Rocklands thrive.
Why? Every winter, Rocklands is transformed. Boulderers outnumber locals. (By a lot). This creates many opportunities but also significant challenges.
Who? RAD was initiated by climbers in 2017, in order make sure that the collective impact is positive. It is now run largely by locals, with consultation and participation from climbers during the winter climbing season. Our board comprises landowners from various Rocklands farms, representatives from the local communities and from both the local and global climbing community. We invite anyone with an interest in keeping Rocklands “rad” to join us.
